Dori Settles
Dori Settles is a glass artist based in the mountains of North Carolina. Drawn to the medium’s technical challenges, she has pursued training in fused glass, kiln-casting, and pâte de verre since 2013. Pâte de verre — building up layers of glass paste in a mold and kiln-firing them into form — is her signature technique.
Her most recognized body of work is Shoes as Storytellers, a traveling exhibition of pâte de verre glass shoes, each accompanied by a story written by the original shoe owner. Rooted in empathy and our shared humanity, the project has traveled to venues across North Carolina, Nebraska, and Florida, with more stops on the way.She works and teaches from her home studio, where the surrounding forest serves as her most constant source of inspiration.

Doug Ostroff
Douglas Ostroff is an artist working in a glassblowing technique to produce his works. Currently based in Santa Fe, he has 30 years of experience working in hot glass with a foundation in Venetian-style glassblowing techniques.
His training in glassblowing includes studies at Corning Museum of Art, Tyler School of Art, Urban Glass, R.K.S Glass, and Bucks County Community College.
Doug has exhibited widely and his glass works are included in the permanent collection of the Henry Ford Museum. He is an avid teacher of glass art to students of all ages and has a background assisting teachers, developing workshops, and is currently a glassblowing instructor at Prairie Dog Glass in Santa Fe. He draws inspiration from nature and a foraging practice to create his glass sculptures.

Linda Guernsey
Linda Guernsey has over 25 years as a glass artist and as a teacher in several glass disciplines. Along with her husband, she owned and managed Hot Flash Glass in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Hot Flash glass is the premiere supplier of both stained and fused glass—supplying local glass enthusiasts with the tools and supplies needed to bring their creative visions to life!
Her journey into glass began with a birthday gift—a stained glass class at Hot Flash Glass that sparked a lifelong passion. While working full-time as a mortgage officer, she dedicated herself to mastering stained and fused glass, eventually purchasing the shop with her husband. As Linda as the “secret sauce” with her guidance, Hot Flash Glass became a hub for artisans and beginners alike, known for its welcoming spirit and deep well of shared knowledge. After closing the shop in 2024 to focus on family, Linda continues to teach and inspire through her teaching workshops at The Groove Artspace, carrying forward her commitment to community and craft.
As Thomas Merton once said, “Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” We hope you will join us on your own art journey at The Groove!

Doug Ostroff will introduce you to his mobile glass studio and will demonstrate the basic process of glass blowing and sculpting of this wonderful material that will be around 2100 F degrees.

2-day Deep Dive Glass Blowing with Doug Ostroff
July 4 & 5, 2026 | 11AM - 4PM

Doug Ostroff will introduce you to his mobile glass studio and will demonstrate the basic process of glass blowing and sculpting of this wonderful material that will be around 2100 F degrees. Students will have the opportunity to make a cup and a chile pepper with an instructor. Doug has 25 years of glass blowing experience and has been teaching glass blowing for 10 years to students age 12 to 85 years old.

Fused Mandala Flowers with Karen Shatar

Design a mandala using a stencil, pattern or your own design. Placing glass powder onto base glass with small straw or designated tool to create pattern to cover the glass. Fire to full fused.

Exploring Ancient Glass: Pate de Vere with Dori Settles
July 6 - 10, 2026 | 10AM - 5PM
Location: The Groove Artspace

Hands-on class introduces students to pâte de verre, using finely ground glass powder, frits and binders to create colorful, thin, and often translucent pieces. You’ll learn various approaches to working with glass materials and molds while being encouraged to experiment and find your own style.
Students will provide their own dust mask or respirator, everything else will be provided.

Bright Bowl-Overs with Lavae

These little fused glass bowls trap light and color. You'll make two 6” x 6” bowl overs. So fun to compose the colored shards on a clear base sheet. They'll be fired twice: fused and then draped in the kiln.

Decorative Glass Art: House Tour

Location: Northeast Heights
Glass has been decorated since it was first formed. An ABQ resident in the Northeast Heights has collected over 2000 pieces of art glass from the Victorian era to today in preparation for an upcoming book, "Glass Decorative Techniques: A Historical Perspective." The tour will focus on how artists have decorated glass through different time periods and how the use of glass techniques changed because of new discoveries and societal expectations.

Artists Lecture with Scott Sucher: Working Dichrotic Glass

Enjoy a guided discussion on how to cold work dichroic glass into objects of beauty. Whether dichroic cubes or sheet glass, this material can be worked into almost any shape by an imaginative artist with the right tools. This presentation covers the tools and planning a project to include selecting the right type of glass. It also covers the cutting, grinding, polishing and gluing of the glass pieces to create that work of art. It doesn't matter if you are a newbie or experienced glass artist, you will discover tips, tricks, and techniques to expand your capabilities.
